Unhappy With Your Lip Filler?

Lip filler is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures and one of the treatments most affected by changing trends. When filler no longer looks right, the solution should not automatically be another syringe. Correction begins by understanding what is causing the problem.

What Can Go Wrong With Lip Filler?

Common aesthetic concerns include too much volume, migration above the lip, poor border definition, asymmetry, uneven projection, lumps or irregularities, a shelf above the upper lip, excessive projection, an unnatural side profile, poor upper-to-lower lip proportions and persistent swelling.

Why Does Lip Filler Migrate?

Potential contributing factors include repeated treatment, excessive volume, product choice, injection technique, product placement, existing filler, anatomy and attempting to create a shape the tissue cannot support.

Are Russian Lips More Likely to Migrate?

No technique should automatically be labelled as always safe or always problematic. The result depends on anatomy, product, quantity, injection placement, technique, previous filler and treatment frequency.

Can Lip Filler Be Dissolved?

If the lip filler contains HA, hyaluronidase may potentially be used. Not every lip requires complete dissolving, and a targeted or staged strategy may be considered.

What Happens to My Lips After Dissolving?

Immediately after dissolving there may be swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising and temporary asymmetry. Lips may also appear much smaller, which can be surprising for someone who has had filler continuously for years.

Will My Lips Be Saggy After Dissolving?

Not necessarily. Lips may look deflated compared with the augmented appearance the patient has become used to. Final appearance depends on natural anatomy, age, previous filler volume and tissue characteristics.

How Long Should I Wait Before Refilling?

The result of correction should become clear before another result is created. Swelling should resolve, tissue should settle and natural anatomy should become visible again.

What Makes Lip Filler Look Natural?

Natural lip filler depends on lip width, upper-to-lower lip proportions, projection, Cupid’s bow, philtral anatomy, dental support, chin projection, nose, facial proportions, side profile and natural asymmetry. The goal is not to create the same lip on everyone.

Is 1 ml Too Much?

Not universally. For some patients 1 ml may be appropriate; for another, particularly someone with substantial existing filler, it may be too much. Quantity should follow anatomy.

Can Lip Asymmetry Be Corrected?

Potentially, but perfect symmetry should not be promised. Asymmetry may arise from natural anatomy, dental structure, muscle movement, previous filler, swelling, scarring or product placement.

Can More Filler Hide Migration?

Sometimes more filler can temporarily disguise a contour problem, but if migrated or excessive filler is already contributing to poor proportions, more volume may make the problem worse.

Natural Lip Restoration

Correction does not necessarily mean returning to completely untreated lips. After tissue has settled, selected patients may want to restore border definition, improve proportion, correct selected asymmetry, reduce projection or create subtle hydration without dramatic size increase.
