Radiesse is an injectable aesthetic treatment containing calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended within a gel carrier. It is not a conventional hyaluronic acid dermal filler. This matters because Radiesse behaves differently from HA filler. It can provide structural support when used in certain ways, but it also has a biostimulatory component associated with collagen and tissue remodelling.
The product must fit the face. The face should never be forced to fit the product.
HA filler can be excellent when precise, relatively immediate volume, projection or contouring is required. One important feature of HA filler is that it can often be enzymatically degraded using hyaluronidase when clinically appropriate.
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite rather than hyaluronic acid. It has different properties and cannot simply be dissolved with hyaluronidase like HA filler. This makes correct patient selection, anatomical placement and practitioner experience particularly important.
Depending on anatomy, indication and technique, Radiesse may be considered for facial contour, lower-face structural support, jawline definition, selected facial folds, age-related facial changes, reduced firmness, collagen depletion, skin quality in selected protocols and ageing hands in suitable patients.
A structural Radiesse treatment is not the same as a hyperdilute Radiesse treatment. The indication matters.
Radiesse can have two important roles. The gel carrier can provide an immediate correction or support effect after injection, depending on treatment area, depth and technique. As the carrier gel is gradually absorbed, the CaHA microspheres remain temporarily within the tissue and are associated with stimulation of collagen and other extracellular matrix components.
The objective is not simply to place volume into the face. The objective is to improve the relationship between structure, tissue quality, collagen and facial proportion.
Radiesse may be considered where the face needs support, shape or definition. Poor contour can be caused by reduced bone support, soft-tissue laxity, volume depletion, facial fat distribution, skin quality, chin projection, jawline shape, previous filler, natural asymmetry or age-related tissue descent.
A good jawline treatment is not simply a matter of injecting along the mandibular border. We assess chin projection, mandibular shape, prejowl changes, lower-face heaviness, submental tissue, skin laxity, facial width, masseter area, facial proportions and previous filler placement.
Radiesse can be used in diluted or hyperdiluted protocols by appropriately trained practitioners for selected biostimulatory indications. In these cases, the aim is usually different from traditional contouring. Hyperdilute Radiesse may focus on skin quality, tissue firmness, collagen stimulation, crepey skin, mild laxity and remodelling of selected tissue areas.
For selected patients, CaHA-based biostimulation may help improve the appearance of crepey skin, reduced firmness, declining elasticity, age-related skin changes and tissue quality concerns. However, Radiesse is not the same as Profhilo, polynucleotides or a superficial skin booster.
Male facial aesthetics requires specific anatomical planning. Radiesse may be useful in selected male patients requiring structural correction or biostimulation, but simply injecting more product does not automatically create a stronger masculine face.
The hands can reveal ageing even when the face has been treated carefully. Radiesse has established use for correction of volume loss in the dorsum of the hands in suitable patients.
Radiesse may be considered for adults concerned about facial structural changes, reduced definition, age-related volume change, lower-face support, declining firmness, collagen loss, selected wrinkles or folds, ageing hands and skin-quality concerns in selected protocols. Suitability depends on medical history, facial anatomy, tissue quality, treatment area and aesthetic objectives.
Another treatment may be more appropriate if the main concern is lip enhancement, superficial hydration, a fully reversible HA-only correction, very precise filler-style shaping, under-eye concerns, significant loose skin requiring surgical assessment, active infection or inflammation, unrealistic expectations or complex previous filler history.
No. Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase in the way hyaluronic acid filler can. Hyaluronidase acts on hyaluronic acid. Radiesse is calcium hydroxylapatite. There is no simple universal Radiesse dissolver.
This does not mean every unwanted result is permanent. It means management depends on the nature, location and severity of the problem. Prevention matters.
Radiesse remains an injectable medical treatment. Temporary reactions may include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, itching, discomfort and temporary firmness. Other complications can include lumps or nodules, inflammation, infection, asymmetry, contour irregularity, inappropriate product placement, vascular complications and unsatisfactory aesthetic result.
